GB News has experienced a significant overhaul, resulting in two of its presenters being taken off the airwaves. Mark Dolan has disclosed his departure from the channel. He took to social media to share the news with his audience, stating: "SOME NEWS.
I've hosted my last MARK DOLAN TONIGHT on GB News. More to follow." Subsequently, an hour after the initial announcement, Dolan released a further statement to his followers, declaring: "STATEMENT.
GB News have made the decision to permanently relieve me of my duties at the channel. I will speak publicly about this in due course." Speculation among viewers suggests that Mark#s exit could be linked to previous on-air incidents where he may have criticised his colleagues.
Notably, when filling in for Laurence Fox and Dan Wooton earlier in the year, he remarked: "Unless you've been living under a rock you'll be aware that GB News presenter Laurence Fox appeared on the channel last night and made some offensive comments about the journalist Ava Evans. "I wasn't expecting to be here tonight. Dan's absence tonight is beyond my control.
Free speech is everything, but it comes with responsibility. Anything you say, or write, or broadcast, will rightly be exposed to the court of public opinion. I know.
I've been there. And I'll be there again. Whether Laurence should stay on air is not my decision, and Dan's absence tonight is also beyond my control.
There is an investigation ongoing. But the comments made by Laurence in my view were sexist, misogynistic and have been condemned across the political spectrum from the left and the right and even the liberal democrats ." Meanwhile, an unexpected change was made to the presenting line-up, with Ellie Costello taking over as co-host alongside Eamonn Holmes, replacing Isabel Webster.
In a statement to Mail Online, a spokesperson for GB News said: "Ellie Costello will now co-host GBN Breakfast five days a week, presenting alongside Eamonn Holmes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and with Stephen Dixon on Thursday and Friday. Stephen and Anne Diamond will continue to co-present GB News Breakfast at Weekends." Ben Briscoe, the head of programming and talent at GB News, added: "2024 has been a truly fantastic year for us.
Not only are we regularly beating the other established news channels, but we are also making inroads against the big public service broadcaster terrestrial channels. Our initiatives will allow us to build on this success with a renewed focus and ambition.".
