KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 27 people, including children, have been killed in a fresh Israeli airstrike on a school in northern Gaza, a media report said on Saturday. Dozens more were wounded when the Dar al-Arqam school in the north-eastern Tuffah district of Gaza City was hit, the BBC reported, citing the Hamas-run health ministry. It said the school was sheltering several Palestinian refugees and others who had recently returned to northern Gaza.
Israel renewed its aerial bombardment and ground offensive in Gaza on 18 March after the first phase of a ceasefire and hostage release deal agreed with Hamas in January came to an end and negotiations on a second phase of the deal stalled. In addition to Gaza and Syria, Israeli forces have continued their attacks in Lebanon as well. Hamas has announced two members of its military wing were killed in an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told Reuters that, following Israeli attacks in Syria over the past two days, Turkey did not wish to enter into a conflict with Israel on Syrian territory. Back in January, the Israeli military had agreed to a ceasefire with Hamas after mediation from Qatar and Egypt. However, after nearly two months, Israel resumed attacks on Gaza two weeks ago.
