1 2 Pune: A court on Wednesday granted bail to Gaurav Ahuja , who was arrested on the charge of stepping out of a BMW car, peeing in a public place, and flashing at morning walkers, including a woman, at Shastrinagar junction on March 8. Ahuja was later released from Yerawada Central Prison . Judicial magistrate first class N S Bari ordered Ahuja's release on furnishing a personal bond of Rs50,000 with one or two sureties of the like amount.

The bail order stated that Ahuja was warned not to influence the prosecution witnesses. He was directed not to leave India without seeking permission from the court. The court directed Ahuja to give attendance at Yerawada police station every Monday between 11am and 2pm.

A detailed text of the order will be released in due course of time. Defence lawyers Ramesh Parmar and Surendra Apune argued for Ahuja's release on bail because the provision under section 65 (penalty for importing intoxicants) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act was not applicable in the case, and other offences were bailable. Assistant public prosecutor Yogesh Kadam opposed Ahuja's bail plea because he was involved in a serious crime of urinating in a public place and indulging in other objectionable acts, which created public outrage in the city.

Kadam feared that the accused would tamper with evidence and flee from Maharashtra, making it difficult to secure his presence for trial if he was released on bail. The court, after hearing both sides, granted bail to Ahuja..
