Gary Oldman Talks Starring in New 'Harry Potter' TV Series, Reveals Role He'd Play

Gary Oldman has some thoughts about the upcoming Harry Potter TV series and if he would be willing to appear in it. If you forgot, the 66-year-old actor played Sirius Black in the movies, which are based on JK Rowling ‘s beloved novels. The franchise is generating headlines again as HBO develops a TV series that will retell the story across seven seasons.

There was even a recent casting call put out as the network begins to cast the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. While attending the 2024 Emmy Awards, Gary was asked if he had been approached about returning to the magical world. He shared what he knew and revealed a role that he would like to play.

Speaking to IndieWire , Gary said that “no one’s approached [him]” about the series. The actor noted that his character didn’t play a large enough part in the series, and he said that he didn’t think he’d get to play Sirius again. However, Gary was open to the idea of playing someone else – Albus Dumbledore.

“I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people,” he said. “Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.” Earlier this year, Gary made some surprising comments about his role in the series .
