Judge Kristin Garland, who is running for Cayuga County family court judge , is inviting the public to meet her at an event in Auburn. The meet-and-greet will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 19, at Moondog's Lounge, 24 State St. Garland will be available to speak with voters.

Her campaign will have yard signs and information about her candidacy at the event. The gathering will also feature a performance by A Cast of Thousands, a local rock band. A poster designed by local artist Ryan O'Hara, who is the drummer for A Cast of Thousands, will be available for purchase.

Garland, an Auburn City Court associate judge, is running for the judgeship created after Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation in July to address a family court backlog. Before her appointment as a city judge, Garland handled family court cases as a private attorney and while working for the county prosecuting child abuse and neglect cases.

If Garland is successful, she will be the first woman elected as a Cayuga County judge and the third woman to win a countywide seat. Her opponent is Steve Buschman, an Auburn attorney. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov.
