Andrew Garfield took on the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2012 for Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man”. He reprised the role two years later for the panned sequel, and then came back to the role seven years later in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. That reappearance revived a wave of love for Garfield’s take on the role.

Garfield, currently serving on the jury at the Marrakech Film Festival, says he has a somewhat odd relationship with the character when he was asked about it. He says jokingly: “[I’ve] had to work very hard to have less people ask questions about ‘Spider-Man.’ I’m still working on it, obviously.

It’s an imperfect process.” He adds he remains grateful for that time as Spider-Man as it helped not just him but others he’s worked with to get projects done, including Scorsese’s 2016 movie “Silence” of all things: “I think Marty [Scorsese] probably was able to get a passion project made with a guy who played Spider-Man in the lead to play a Jesuit priest in the 1600s of Japan. The fact that that film got made with the help of Spider-Man is a beautiful thing.

” The film festival’s jury president, “Challengers” director Luca Guadagnino, chimed in saying Spider-Man is a “fascinating superhero” and wishes he could’ve worked on the property when Garfield was there: “I remember when Sam Raimi directed his first one, and I was 28 or 29, I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac, and I wished I had been asked to do one. So I wish I had directed you in ‘Spider-Man.'” Guadagnino and Garfield did recently work together on “After the Hunt” alongside Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.
