Summer plants that flower can be potted up now, but there are two key successes to ensure their blooms flourish.

It’s a very good time to pot up some summer flowering plants. The plants will have time to establish their roots and grow ready to give us colour flowers this summertime. Pots can be created in no time at all.

A few pots, a bag of good quality peat free compost and your chosen summer flowering plants is all that is needed to create the flower display. In two of my pots I have Hosta and Peonies, which are very different types of plants but both lovely for a summer display. Hosta gives us lovely ornamental leaves that cope well in shade and Peonies gives us flowers in a sunny spot.

The variety of flowering plants available to buy and plant is large, and it’s all very exciting. The effort we put into potting up now will pay floral dividends in summertime, it’s both exciting and rewarding. The key to successful pots is to regularly feed and water them, as unfortunately a dried out pot will soon cause plants and flowers to wither.

The best time to water our pots is in the evening, then the roots have all night to soak up the moisture before the sun comes out again. If you would like to order Summer Plants please visit www.thompson-morgan.
