If you’re struggling with stubborn garden weeds that threaten to take over your flowerbeds , you might feel stuck between using harsh chemicals or letting your plants suffocate. But there’s an easy, eco-friendly way to take control of your garden that clears away weeds and boosts the vibrancy of your flowers . Gardening expert LeAnne Samuelson from Prestige Botanicals shares a surprisingly simple yet powerful solution using common kitchen ingredients.

Her concoction, made with white vinegar , salt, and washing-up liquid, is perfect for gardeners looking to tackle weeds naturally. LeAnne explained: “It’s simple, effective, and perfect for a chemical-free garden.” This DIY weed killer works wonders by dehydrating the weeds with vinegar and salt.

The washing-up liquid ensures the solution sticks to the weeds' leaves, making it more efficient. To prepare the solution, fill a spray bottle with one litre of white vinegar, add three heaping tablespoons of salt, and stir it together. Then, add three teaspoons of washing-up liquid to bind it together.

This easy-to-make mix will allow your garden flowers to thrive by eliminating unwanted growth and keeping things natural. For maximum effectiveness, LeAnne advises applying the mix on a dry, sunny day, ideally when it hasn’t rained recently. “The vinegar and salt work to dehydrate the weeds, while the washing-up liquid ensures the solution clings to the leaves, getting to work more efficiently,” she said.

After applying, wait about an hour for the mixture to work its magic before rinsing it with boiling water. The expert added: “The boiling water will help neutralise the solution, and it’s gentle on your garden while still getting the job done.” In addition to this weed-killing remedy, LeAnne offers another quick fix for those who want to take it further.

“If you're careful, simply pouring boiling water directly onto weeds can kill them off in a day or two. Just be sure to avoid splashing your feet,” she warned. Lemon juice is also a natural herbicide, as LeAnne explained: “It’s a little-known trick, but it’s surprisingly effective.
