Gardeners are constantly looking for ways to get rid of pests in their gardens. Now, a gardening expert has shared his top tip for keeping pests at bay, and it involves a particular plant

A gardening expert shared his top recommendation for a plant that should be in every garden due to its remarkable and natural pest control abilities. Gardeners of all levels often struggle with pests like slugs , snails, and insects, and gardener Joe, known online as 'JoesGarden', revealed his solution to this issue. In a TikTok video, Joe said: "This here is one simple plant that I recommend in every garden.

Every part of my garden has to have nasturtiums." He highlighted that nasturtium flowers, seed pods, and leaves are 100% edible and serve a vital purpose in protecting other plants . Joe explained that nasturtiums are a magnet for pests, which actually works to the advantage of other plants in the garden.

He said: " Slugs and snails can't get enough of nasturtium foliage, and cabbage butterflies love laying their caterpillar eggs underneath the leaves." By attracting these pests, nasturtiums act as a natural pest deterrent, safeguarding valuable crops from damage, reports Devon Live . This clever gardening hack can be a game-changer for gardeners looking to minimise pest damage without relying on chemicals or other methods.

Joe recommended that April is the perfect month to start adding nasturtiums to your garden, highlighting the choice between snagging a bargain plant from retail outlets or going the extra mile by growing them from seeds. Expanding on this, he said: "And now is the perfect time to pick up a few cheap nasturtium plants from the shops, or even better, sow some seeds to plant all around the garden, where each year, they'll grow bloom and self-seed to return every spring, giving you an almost endless supply all from a few cheap plants." In response, many viewers flocked to the comments section to share their success stories of introducing nasturtiums into their gardens, extolling its adaptability.

An enthusiast posted: "I till my garden once a year, I planted these guys once, 10 years ago. I've never had to reseed. They are currently growing.

Once they drop seeds, they live there now." Another viewer revealed: "I make a pesto using the nasturtium leaves and flowers! Good way to bulk up a basil pesto, and it's delicious peppery flavour!". Also, one other gardener remarked: "I've got a bunch in purple and a white/yellow colour as they are so good to hide dodgy fencing too.
