New Delhi: Gangster Kapil Sangwan , who is based in the UK, claimed responsibility on Saturday for the murder of a real estate businessman in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar. This corroborated Delhi Police's initial probe that the killing was related to the ongoing feud between Sangwan and his rival Manjeet Mahal. TOI had reported on Saturday the probability of Sangwan's involvment in the crime.
The probe also revealed that the four shooters involved in the killing were from Yamunanagar in Haryana and were hired by Sangwan for this specific task, according to police sources. Although there have been no arrests yet, the Outer district police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen. "Along with Shubham, the other shooters have been identified as Taranjeet, Suraj and Shokeen Khan," said a sub-inspected probing the cases on Saturday.
"Khan was driving the Swift car used by the assailants and Suraj was seated behind him. Taranjeet was seated in the front passenger seat and Shubham was behind him," a sub-inspector probing the case added. The officer added, "They rented the Swift car in Karol Bagh a day before the murder and checked into Hotel Apple Tree in Dwarka using fake documents.
" On Friday, the squad checked out around 6am, reached Paschim Vihar and waited for the targeted brothers to emerge from their house. They had conducted a recce earlier and knew that the victim used a Fortuner SUV. Around 7am, they ambushed the target and shot him dead.
Meanwhile, in a social media post, Sangwan alleged the victim's association with rival gangster Mahal, attributing the shooting to this. Sangwan claimed that the victim and his brother worked for Mahal, illegally taking over plots on his behalf. He also alleged that the brothers met with Mahal at his house during his custody parole in Jan.
The family, however, denied any links with Mahal. A relative said that Mahal was merely an acquaintance because they belonged to the same village. Sangwan threatened a similar fate for anyone attempting to befriend or associate with Mahal.
The gangster further escalated the threat, stating that he would finish the conflict started by Mahal and dismissed any attempts to portray himself as the victim. "Don't play the victim card. You started it, I am gonna finish it," he concluded.
The police are trying to track the IP address ofthe person who posted the message. TOI reported on Saturday that the probe into the killing centred on the gang war between Sangwan and jailed gangster Mahal that began in 2015..
