Gang involved in stealing water pump sets busted, four arrested

Prayagraj: Mauaima police on Sunday claimed to have busted an inter-district gang of thieves involved in stealing water pumping sets installed in fields in trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna during night hours and arrested four of its key members near Mahrauda crossing. The thieves were planning to sell off stolen pumping set parts. The police hve also recovered a large cache of dismantled stolen parts of eight pumping sets and an auto from their possession.

The arrested individuals were identified as Hanumat Singh alias Kedar (24) of Mauaima, Shiv Shankar (20) of Lokapur, Pintoo Saroj (26) of Pratapgarh, and Ranjeet Kumar (19) of Soraon. The arrested thieves confessed to the police that they used to conduct reconnaissance of pumping sets installed in fields in Mauaima, Soraon, and Holagarh blocks during the daytime and steal them at night. The gang admitted to selling dismantled pumping set parts at nominal prices.



The police discovered about the theft when an owner of a pumping set registered an FIR alleging that unknown miscreants stole his pumping set installed in a field in Maganpur village under the limits of Mauaima police station in the intervening night of March 19 and 20. ..
