Pune: A group of seven to eight men assaulted three men with sharp weapons and vandalised nine vehicles in two separate incidents, triggering tension among local residents at Ghorpadi and Wanowrie between 1.30am and 2am on Thursday. The Kalepadal police later arrested criminals on record Mahesh Gajjesinh (29) from Tilekarnagar and Swapnil Kotwal (27) from Hadapsar.
A minor boy (16) was detained from Hadapsar. The trio's custody was transferred to the Mundhwa police . A magisterial court on Friday remanded Gajjesinh and Kotwal in police custody till November 27.
The minor boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ordered his detention in an observation home for 14 days. Senior inspector Nilkant Jagtap of the Mundhwa police said seven to eight men first assaulted Ajay Pawar (31) from Ghorpadi with sharp weapons over previous enmity. They also assaulted passers-by Amit Pardeshi (26) and Sohesh Almale (26), both from Ghorpadi, for intervening in the dispute and vandalised a car parked at Devki Palace Chowk on B T Kawade Road before fleeing.
Jagtap said the assailants later went to Chimta Vasti behind St Patricks Town in Wanowrie to attack a rival. Failing to find him there, they vandalised eight vehicles — four cars, two motorbikes and two autorickshaws. The assailants sped away on motorcycles after the incident, creating commotion in the locality, he added.
Senior inspector Sanjay Patange from the Wanowrie police said the vandalism came to light after the Vasti residents contacted them on Thursday evening. He said, "There was no CCTV footage of the spot. We received information that the Kalepadal police arrested/detained three suspects and transferred them to the Mundhwa police.
The assailants' custody would be transferred in our case after the Mundhwa police complete their investigations." Senior inspector Mansinh Patil of the Kalepadal police said, "We laid a trap thrice and took Gajjesinh into custody after he came to meet his wife at their Kalepadal home. His questioning led to the arrest of Kotwal and the detention of their minor accomplice.
" Two FIRs related to an attempt to murder three men and vandalising vehicles were registered with the Mundhwa and the Wanowrie police..
