mp4The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has brushed aside concerns over a potential merger among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as an unworkable alliance destined to fail.Ganduje made the remarks on Friday during a visit by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Kaduna State. The visit was part of the party’s post-Sallah homage to the former leader.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ganduje said the ruling party is not threatened by any coalition plans being floated by opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.“We are not worried at all,” Ganduje said. “This is just history trying to repeat itself.

They went on a joint venture which will not work because from what we have seen, there are just some particles that cannot come together. It is a game, and we will not reveal our technicalities on how to handle it, but we assure you, we are equal to the task.”Ganduje emphasised the APC’s current strength, boasting of 21 state governors and describing the party as “still the strongest party in West Africa.

” He said the party was not only focused on retaining power but also expanding its reach ahead of 2027.“We are eyeing other states that will come into our fold. Either the governors themselves will come, or we go for election and defeat them to increase our tally,” he said.

“We are comfortable, but we are not resting. We shall continue.”His comments came on the heels of a similar visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Buhari’s residence earlier on Friday.

Atiku, accompanied by a delegation of prominent political figures including former governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa), and Achike Udenwa (Imo), also described the meeting as a Sallah greeting.Speaking with journalists after the visit, Atiku confirmed that discussions are underway among major political parties to form a formidable opposition bloc, but insisted the visit to Buhari was not part of those talks.“There is a plan for the major political parties to come together and form a strong opposition, but it is not part of our visit,” Atiku clarified.

The former Vice President also shared moments from the visit on his verified X handle, writing: “Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari...

It was a wonderful time with him. As usual, he cracked me up (to the extent that my ribs were hurting) with his peculiar humour.”Former Kaduna State Governor el-Rufai, also part of the delegation, echoed the sentiment that the visit was purely for Sallah homage.

“We are here to pay Sallah visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari because I was not around during the Sallah period,” he said. The spate of visits to Buhari, including an earlier one by APC governors on Tuesday, has stirred political intrigue, particularly with murmurs of a realignment of forces ahead of 2027.Chioma KaluThe post Ganduje Dismisses Opposition Merger Talks, Calls It a ‘Joint Venture That Will Fail’ appeared first on Arise News.
