R. Martin is celebrating the return of the dire wolf, a species once thought to be extinct for thousands of years, after scientists claimed they have revived them. Martin, who popularized the dire wolf in the hit series “Game of Thrones,” revealed on Facebook that he has been aware of the news for a while now and has just been sworn to silence.

“I’ve been holding my tongue for months now, sworn to silence yet dying to tell the world. Pardon my shouting, but..

. The dire wolf is back,” he wrote. The award-winning author shared that he met the Colossal scientists who “successfully de-extincted the species.

” “Extinct for more than ten thousand years, but extinct no longer, thanks to Ben Lamm, George Church, Beth Shapiro, and the rest of their team of mad scientists at Colossal, the world leader in the science of ‘de-extinction.’” he stated. “I met them all in February, in.

.. well, that would be telling.

And I met Romulus and Remus too. Here’s me and Romulus. Or maybe Remus.

They’re twins, and hard to tell apart,” he continued, alongside a photo of him carrying a dire wolf. Colossal Biosciences, a company based in Dallas, recently announced that with the help of revolutionary science, they were able to birth three dire wolves. The biotech company utilized gene-editing and cloning to yield two male dire wolves, named Romulus and Remus, and a female, named Khaleesi after the nickname of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys, a character in the popular “Game of Thrones” series.

In the series, a dire wolf is a creature that is a close relative to the wolves but they are larger and stronger, a near-mythical species that inhabit Westeros. The dire wolves are usually associated with House Stark, as they use the animal’s head in their sigil, and every Stark child has a dire wolf as loyal companion in the storyline. The dire wolves belonging to House Stark are as follows: Grey Wind, adopted by Robb Stark.

Lady, adopted by Sansa Stark. Nymeria, adopted by Arya Stark. Shaggydog, adopted by Rickon Stark.

Summer, adopted by Bran Stark. Ghost, adopted by Jon Snow. Out of these six, only three are believed to still be alive.
