Samsung is set to host its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. According to a report, Samsung could unveil its first extended reality (XR) headset at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. The headset, known as ‘Project Moohan’ (meaning infinity in Korean), was initially introduced in December 2024 as a rival to Apple’s Vision Pro.
Although the full specifications of the headset have not been officially revealed, Samsung has teased several features, including multimodal input, advanced displays, and passthrough capabilities. The headset will be the first to run on Android XR, a new operating system for XR devices, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.
XR encompasses augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) technologies. While Samsung has previously released a VR headset, the Project Moohan marks its entry into the wearable XR headset market. The upcoming headset is teased to feature passthrough support, similar to rivals like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3, and will support Google's Gemini AI assistant. It is also expected to offer apps optimized for use on a large, virtual display.
