Samsung has already implemented an under-display camera in its Z Fold series, allowing for a full-screen experience on the inner displays of its latest foldable devices. However, the company has not yet extended this technology to its non-foldable models, and the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra may be the first to feature it. The leaker indicates that the prototype display of the Galaxy S26 Ultra is devoid of any holes, suggesting that the flagship model for 2026 could incorporate an under-display camera.
Even if Samsung successfully integrates this technology into the Galaxy S26 Ultra, it remains uncertain whether it will outperform the existing cameras found in the Z Fold series. Currently, the under-display camera technology does not quite rival the quality of traditional punch-hole selfie cameras, often resulting in images that appear somewhat washed out and blurry. Although software enhancements can improve the output, the overall quality still falls short.
It is important to note that the leak mentions the hole-free display for the Galaxy S26 Ultra is still in the prototype phase. Typically, early prototypes of smartphones include numerous features that may not make it to the final retail version. Therefore, if Samsung determines that the current under-display technology does not meet expectations, it may be discarded during the testing process.
