G20 nations must find solutions to illicit financial flows: SA govt

SA government calls on the G20 Working Group nations to find solutions to illicit financial flows.

Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Seiso Mohai, has called on the G20 Development Working Group nations to resolve how to come up with tangible solutions to fight against illicit financial flows.He was speaking on the second day of the three-day G20 Development Working Group meeting in Somerset West, Western Cape.Mohai says these also involve the illegal exchange of money across national borders, which include smuggling and tax evasion amongst others.

He says this type of financial transgression must be prioritised.Mohai says, “If it is estimated that about R88 billion of the country’s illicit flows are lost through these measures. It is a very important issue to the continent.



”He says, “So we have to address this issue unashamedly and be bold to place it on the agenda, and that’s why we are encouraging that there should be a collaborative effort to ensure that all countries really focus on this issue so that we emerged much more in a better position of strength, and our country has taken a very attitude where it won’t even allow even the commission of research and more studies to look into the factors that impact on this illicit financial flows.”Deputy Minister @SeisoMohai speaks to SABC during a doorstop interview at the G20 Development Working Group Meeting, highlighting South Africa’s commitment to driving inclusive development and fostering global partnerships under the theme of Solidarity, Equality and..
