The city of Playa Del Carmen pulled a “ That’s not the truth, Ellen ” on Fyre Festival founder and fraudster Billy McFarland. He claimed that he’s been working with the city on being the second iteration of the disaster festival to Mexico, but the government of Playa Del Carmen is calling his bluff. “In Playa Del Carmen, there will be no event called ‘Fyre 2’,” the city wrote in a post on April 2.
“There is no registration nor planning. This government prioritizes order, safety, and truth.” Two days later, McFarland posted a statement on Instagram with alleged documentation showing that he was working with the city for the festival.
However, the documents show approval for an event with a maximum of 12 hours of music over three days for 250 people, a huge contrast to the party McFarland has been promoting. The cheapest ticket to 2 Fyre 2 Fest is $1,400, with ticket options as high as $1,100,000. A hidden perk to a ticket to the event is a probable a cameo to a third documentary.
In 2019, Two docs were made about the first disaster festival: Netflix’s FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Hulu’s Fyre Fraud . McFarland was sentenced to six years in federal prison in 2018 for fraud but was released early in 2022. It only took a year out of the slammer for McFarland to start creating plans for another festival and another year for him to get involved in politics .
