After months of for an extension of the , an agreement has finally been reached between the , employers and trade unions. In a letter to parliament, the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Eddy van Hijum announced that the new scheme would allow employees who perform heavy work to retire three years before the official retirement age of 67. Despite the government’s earlier proposal to limit the number of people who can qualify for the scheme not going down well, unions and employees have agreed to try to limit the number of people retiring to 15.
