Fundraiser launched for Irish mum-of-three in coma after suffering brain injury while on holiday

The 49-year-old from Tipperary was enjoying a dream holiday in Tenerife when she suddenly fell ill

A fundraising appeal has been launched for a mum-of-three from Co Tipperar y who suffered a serious brain injury while on holiday in Tenerife . Lorraine Cummins, 49, from Cormack Drive in Nenagh, had recently travelled to the Canary Island with a group of friends when she became ill. Lorraine suffered a devastating bleed to her brain and was quickly rushed to hospital, where she is currently in a coma.

The Tipperary native's three children have flown to Tenerife to be by her side and her friends have launched a fundraising campaign to support the family during this difficult time. Writing on the GoFundMe page, Lorraine's close friend Lisa Gleeson, who set up the fundraiser, said: " Hi my name is Lisa and I’m on here looking for as much help and support as possible for one of my best friends Lorraine Cummins. "Lorraine went on holiday to Tenerife with a few of of friends and ended up in a coma after suffering a stroke/bleed brain.



"Lorraine is the mother of 3 beautiful boys who have flew out to be by her side. The purpose of this page is to make sure they are comfortable and so is Lorraine. "When Lorraine wakes up they will know the outcome of this awful situation.

This money will be used for Lorraine and her family only. Please help if you can no amount is too little." The GoFundMe campaign has raised over €4,815 of the €7,500 target at the time of writing, with over 162 people contributing to the fundraising efforts.

Lisa has thanked the public for their support and revealed that the money raised has helped Lorraine's children secure an apartment close to the hospital where she is staying. "Lads I want to thank everyone who has giving money for Lorraine’s boys," she wrote in a recent post shared on social media.

"They are truly grateful as are the family. I set up a little private group because I wanted them to have no worries. "The money raised has been amazing and has got them an apartment near the hospital where there mother is for 3 weeks.

The doctors have said they are looking at been there for at least 10 weeks. "There is some good signs from Lorraine when she wakes up but they put her back into the coma so she can rest her brain." Lorraine's children have also thanked the public for their generosity, with her son Oisin writing in a post on Facebook: " Lads every time I go on my phone I’m tearing up with the support we are getting what a community and what people we have in our lovely little town.

"Thanks so much Lisa and thanks so much each person that has helped prayed and was just there for mam and us at this time. "Our mother is coming home she is doing it for all of us. Thanks again.

Lorraine's son Oisin added: " Lisa I don't know what to even say I'm lost for words. "Me and the boys want thank each and every person from the bottom of our hearts, we're gonna bring our mammy home with the help of all ye amazing people."
