After years of serving food from a truck, a chef is taking a leap and opening his very own town café

Scott Sanders, 44, has owned the Munch Box in Lynch Lane for several years, alongside running Scott’s Kitchen at the Royal Standard pub in Upwey – but now he is turning his dreams into a reality and opening Scott’s Kitchen in Gloucester Street, Weymouth on Monday, April 14. Scott said: “It’s something that I have always wanted to do. I love cooking food, and I like seeing people’s faces when they eat the food that I have cooked.

“I wanted to have a café for local people with fair prices and no tourist tax. I don’t want to rip people off.” The business owner moved to Weymouth from Manchester 17 years ago and got a part-time job washing up, explaining that ‘from there he has built himself up to having his very own café.

’ For Scott, it’s ‘all about making people happy.’ He said: “If you keep the customers happy then they keep on coming back. It will be a good café, with good food, and good prices.

” He further explained that he has a seven-month-old daughter and is hoping that one day she can take over the business. Scott is hoping that once the business gets off the ground there will be the opportunity to employ around three or four members of staff – but for now, family is at the heart of the new venture as his wife Tina and his mum will both be working alongside him. ’ Speaking about how the new café came about, Scott said: “One of my regular customers owns the building and asked if I would like to take it on.” Over the years, the venue has also been a Thai restaurant and a café. Inside the café (Image: Scott Sanders) Scott added: “Over the last few years of owning the Munch Box, I have built up a really good customer base who are all supporting me.

” He further revealed that Café Rico, Matt at Weymouth Football Club, Dorset Tea, the Royal Standard pub, and the landlord of the building have all offered him heaps of support in his new business venture. In the future, Scott would like to be able to use the café to host coffee mornings for the community. Sadly, this new venture also means that Scott is selling the Munch Box to pursue his dream.
