Friday’s high school roundup: Cheverus upends in Sanford in clash of unbeatens

Field hockey: The Stags get three goals in the second half to beat the Spartans, 3-0, for their 23rd straight win.

After being held scoreless in the first half for the first time this season, Cheverus scored three second-half goals to secure a 3-0 win over Sanford in a Class A South field hockey game Friday in Portland. Zoey Radford broke the tie 32 seconds into the third quarter, then Sydney Brunelle and Caroline Rousseau added fourth-quarter goals as the Stags improved to 5-0. Ellie Skolnekovich made six saves for the Stags.

Megan Sheppard stopped 11 shots for Sanford (3-1). SOUTH PORTLAND/WESTBROOK 4, MARSHWOOD 2: Maeve Tardif scored the go-ahead goal with 3:01 left in the first half, lifting the Red Riots (2-2) over the Hawks (1-4) at South Portland. It was 2-2 after the first quarter, with Jane Phillips accounting for both South Portland/Westbrook goals.



Laurali Shisler and Isabel Rothwell countered for Marshwood. The Red Riots padded their lead midway through the third quarter when Lily Dorrington converted a pass from Mackenzie Hall. This roundup will be updated.
