Nanci Major smacked a double and single and knocked in three runs as Hazleton Area downed Dallas, 5-2, in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball opener for both teams, Friday, in Dallas. Olivia Williams and Isabella Boyle added an RBI apiece for the Lady Cougars, who never trailed after taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. They tacked on two insurance tallies in the seventh to make a winner of Isabella Almeida.
The junior worked all seven innings in the pitching circle, scattering six hits and giving up only single runs in both the third and sixth innings. She struck out three and walked one. Williams and Aleeyah Blanyar contributed two singles apiece to Hazleton Area’s nine-hit attack.
Boyle, Kayla Lagowy and Elia Tito chipped in a base hit apiece. Lia Riley belted a solo home run for the Mountaineers. Losing pitcher Nina Barrouk hit a double and single and drove in their other run.
Sophia Maier, Emma Eick and Sydney Haydu each helped with a single. Barrouk fanned nine Lady Cougars in seven innings. Tamaqua 13, Lehighton 1 Kolbe Robb, Molly Evans Megan Linkhorst and Leah Crowley rapped two base hits as the visiting Lady Raiders (4-3-1) routed Lehighton in a non-league game.
Evans carried the biggest stick with two doubles and three RBI; Robb delivered a double and single; and Linkhorst and Crowley both singled twice. Veronica Scott added a run-scoring double. A.
Nothstein doubled and Myers and Synder both singles for the Indians (2-5). Freshman Peyton Faust pitched a complete game in picking up the win. She gave up only three hits, whiffed seven and walked three.
Mahanoy Area 15, Shenandoah Valley 0 Lilly Carl and Olivia Kennedy combined on a three-inning no-hitter in Mahanoy Area’s shutout victory. Urijah Fazio cracked two doubles and had three RBI and Ella Connolly and Kennedy each drove in two runs to power the Lady Bears’ attack. Fazio, Ella Brode and Cadance Poslosky collected two hits apiece for Mahanoy Area.
Panther Valley 16, Lincoln Leadership 1 The visiting Lady Panthers needed just six base hits to thump Lincoln Leadership Academy in a non-league contest. That’s because PV also took advantage of 15 walks and three Raptor errors. Brooklyn Mika drove in three runs, Morgan O’Brien plated two and Isabella D’Ancona, Paige Goida, Myla Krapf and Madeline Schirer each had one RBI for PV.
Janessa Prudente, Danika Blazosky and Goida teamed to keep Lincoln Leadership in check from the pitching circle. Nativity 8, Weatherly 7 Trailing 7-1, Nativity scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the tying and winning runs in the seventh to rally past the visiting Lady Wreckers (2-5, 1-4). An error allowed Nativity to pull even and Erin Talmadge’s RBI single was the game-winner as her team won for just the second time in seven games.
Before Nativity’s comeback, Olivia Marasco’s two-run triple, Courtney Snyder’s RBI triple and run-scoring singles by Abby Weston and Rebecca Caldwell highlighted a six-run third inning that gave Weatherly a 6-1 lead. Snyder later added an RBI single in the fifth to pad that advantage to six runs. But, Nativity batted around in the sixth to draw close.
Talmadge and Chloe Zulick both singled home runs and Lauren Clark and Finley McNamara plated two more on ground balls. Chloe Covell was the winning pitcher. Caldwell was tagged the loss.
H.S. Baseball Tamaqua 5, Lehighton 0 In a possible District 11 Class 4A playoff preview, Tamaqua’s Cooper Ansbach and Jake Yenser held Lehighton to just three singles as the unbeaten Blue Raiders posted their seventh straight victory.
Ansbach struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning, before giving way to Yenser. The sophomore worked the final six innings on the mound, fanning nine and walking only one, to pick up the win in the non-league contest. Ansbach, Noah Mateyak and Landon Kamant knocked in the only runs that Tamaqua needed less than 24 hours after blanking Pine Grove, 2-0, in a Schuylkill League game.
Mateyak and Logan Morgans both singled twice and Ansbach, Kamanat, Luke Kane and Brayden Witkowski chipped in a single apiece. Jayse Lawrence, Cody Snyder and Derek Behler each singled for the Indians, who suffered their first defeat in eight games. Nativity 20, Weatherly 0 The Hilltoppers made short work of the Wreckers (1-6) in a Schuylkill League Division III game.

Boys’ Tennis Crestwood 5, Hazleton Area 0 At Maple Manor, the unbeaten Comets swept all five matches in straight sets. In singles, Tommy Biscotti defeated Mateo Feola, 6-2, 6-4; Sean Rossi beat Ethan Kintzel, 6-1, 6-4; and Spencer Young was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Herman Arias. In doubles, Crestwood’s Aaron Kogoy-Kia Esfahani team beat Luke Palmieri-Derek Gaydos, 6-1, 6-2; and the Comets’ Mike Modrovsky-Jack Groth beat Nate Hamas-Jack Walter, 6-2, 6-2.
H.S. Boys’ Lacrosse Delaware Valley 13, Crestwood 7 Larollo scored seven goals and assisted on two others as the host Warriors handed Crestwood its second straight loss.
Husejnaric (two goals), Rabolli and Mackey (one apiece) also contributed to the DelVal attack. Kevin Schlude was the Comets’ high point man with four on three goals and one assist. Ashton Amend added a goal and two assists; Jack Augustine helped with a goal and an assist; Caleb Eisenhauer and Jacob Jeckell both put in one goal; and Gianni Piccolotti and Logan Lawson each had an assist.
