Minka Kelly spoke to Deadline about the idea of her making a comeback for the Friday Night Lights reboot recently. While the actress was promoting her upcoming Netflix show, Ransom Canyon, she appeared to confirm that she is unwilling to return to play Lyla Garrity. Kelly spoke about leaving fans wanting more and said, “I think leaving that where it was is probably the right thing to do.
” She further asserted that she was unsure whether her character might be needed for the reboot and added, “Maybe too much sometimes is too much. I don’t know that they need more Lyla.” Kelly also drew comparisons between the character Quinn O’Grady, who she is playing in Ransom Canyon, and her Friday Night Lights role.
She conveyed, “I think Quinn is maybe Lyla 20 years later, a little bit more grown up. So I’m just gonna focus on Quinn for now.” The reboot of Friday Night Lights was announced in November 2024.
At that time, Variety reported that development on the reboot was in progress, with showrunner Jason Katims helming the project. It was also reported that the story will revolve around new characters. So the chances of old characters returning are relatively slim.
