The North Platte football team lost to Millard South 56-10 on Friday in the Bulldogs’ final home game of the season. “We came out, and we gave them our best shot, but only for a quarter and a half,” North Platte coach Kurt Altig said. “There haven't been very many times this season they’ve been down.

There haven’t been very many times this season that they haven’t scored. They had the ball, and we turned them over.” Breckin Torrez ran for a team-high 89 yards, while Eli Broman ran for 49 and Caden Joneson ran for 47, unofficially.

Alonzo Torrez scored the Bulldogs’ lone touchdown on the opening drive of the game. Gabe Prucha paced Millard South with 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jett Thomalla threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns.

North Platte opened the game strong with Alonzo Torrez’s 6-yard run up the middle. Breckin Torrez had a 36-yard run to help set up the score. Millard South, though, quickly responded with Aamir Hill’s 24-yard touchdown catch to even the score at 7-7 with 3:09 left in the first quarter.

North Platte went three-and-out on the next drive, but the Bulldogs intercepted Thomalla, his second interception of the season, to get the ball back at the start of the second quarter. North Platte, though, went three-and-out again. This time, Prucha ran in a 1-yard touchdown to give the Patriots a 14-7 lead.

Prucha had 42 total yards — 35 rushing and seven receiving — on the drive. The Bulldogs had a touchdown called back for holding and another one ruled incomplete on the next drive, so North Platte had to settle for Luke Borges’ 51-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 14-10. Millard South took over from there.

Hill returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, then North Platte fumbled the next kickoff and gave Millard South the ball at the 18-yard line. Chase Loftin scored one play later on an 18-yard touchdown catch to put the Patriots up 28-10. “They’re a good football team,” Altig said.

“When we give them chances like that, they’re going to take advantage of them.” North Platte punted on the next drive, and Amarion Jackson scored on a 10-yard catch to give Millard South a 35-10 lead going into halftime. Isaac Jensen caught a 24-yard touchdown pass, Prucha ran in a 49-yard score and Isaiah Traylor ran in a 23-yard touchdown to set the score at 56-10.

“We made a few too many mistakes, and when you do that against really, really good teams, they’re going to get the best of you,” Altig said. Sent weekly directly to your inbox! Sports reporter {{description}} Email notifications are only sent once a day, and only if there are new matching items..
