The Sam Thomas-trained horse won a bumper in April to add to his win at Ascot on the flat in November. But over hurdles, Celtic Dino made an impressive start beating Ma Shantou by 14 lengths. That wouldn't necessarily be a certainty next time out, by Ma Shantou franked that form by winning comfortably himself next time out, which was on Wednesday.
That horse was also close behind Bleu De Vassy at Fairyhouse on debut, in a bumper, back in December. All that form suggests Celtic Dino could be something special over hurdles and should justify odds-on favouritism. There are a few interesting runners here but ultimately it's Break My Soul who appeals the most.
The mare was just beaten by a nose by Our Champ on seasonal debut, finishing comfortably ahead of the reopposing Afadil . She won comfortably in her previous two hurdles in April and May and continues to rise up in the weights. The mare was upped 4lb for finishing second earlier this month and should improve further on her second run of the season.
Won well on return this season beating Almazhar Garde at Kempton last month. That horse also went on to place second again behind The Wolf so this form looks promising coming into this against a variety of opponents over fences. Should be right up there at the finish but with many uncertainties in the race like hunter chaser Regatta De Blanc making his handicap debut, Law Of Supply looking dangerous on his second outing over fences, but ultimately Regarde is consistent and will be up there at the finish.
It may be a four runner contest but this Novices' Hurdle is set to be a match between Kilbarry Hill and How About No . Both have lots to like here to win and the odds suggest the same with not much separating them. How About No makes his first appearance for trainer Lizzie Quinlan and while he's 0-4 over hurdles has placed in the top three on each.
Kilbarry Hill carries 8lb more but they are at a similar level despite what the ratings suggest. And he won so well last time out on seasonal debut that it looks like he's really come on from last season with some decent hurdle placings. Beau Morgan is on board offsetting the rise in the weights and appeals the most.
Western General won comfortably on the fifth time of asking over fences but won so comfortably on his first run of the season, first run since having a wind op and is now upped just 8lb facing some chasing newcomers. Could progress further but I think looking at these chase debutants they look like they have some untapped potential in this discipline. Especially as most are already at a similar rating over hurdles.
Hasthing has some nice hurdle form including a sixth placed finish at Sandown in March in a big field Grade 3. He's not jumped the best over hurdles though and likely will need the run over fences to progress. Ryan's Rocket didn't pick up well in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle but now makes an interesting chase debut for Fergal O'Brien.
His hurdle form has worked out well and may well have needed the run last month and looks the most dangerous on his first run over fences.
