Randwick trainer Michael Freedman is sniffing an Everest opportunity with Mumbai Muse and will back her up in The Shorts on her home track on Saturday. Seven days after splitting Everest-bound Sunshine In Paris and Joliestar in the Sheraco Stakes, Mumbai Muse will take on all comers in The Shorts carrying only 54 kilograms. Mumbai Muse will be out to make an Everest claim in The Shorts at Randwick on Saturday.

Mumbai Muse was put up at $51 in Everest betting by TAB yesterday, and a Shorts win will probably get her into the $20 million slot race on October 19. “It is worth a shy at the stumps,” Freedman said. “She is going better than ever and was really bouncing around this morning, which is a great sign of how she came through that Sheraco run.

” Mumbai Muse has two wins from 12 starts – the Brian Crowley Stakes and Red Roses down the Flemington straight at 1100m last spring. Concorde Stakes winner I Am Me will look to extend her lead in the Sydney Sprint Series as the $3.80 favourite in The Shorts.

Defending champion Private Eye is at $5.50, while Mumbai Muse is respected on the quick back-up at $8.50.

Freedman will only take three runners to Randwick but can make a case for all of them, especially Sires Produce Stakes winner Manaal, which takes on the unbeaten Autumn Glow in the Tea Rose Stakes. The Tassort filly gets back out to 1400m for the first time since the Sires and has been outstanding in the Princess Series so far carrying the group 1 penalty to a closing third in the Silver Shadow Stakes before winning the Furious Stakes. “I’m happy with my filly,” Freedman said.

“She is getting stronger and I think the 1400 will suit her. It’s hard to line up Autumn Glow and she looks very good, but my filly is tough and doesn’t know how to run a bad race.” In the last on the Randwick program, Moravia returns to the benchmark grade after spending most his career in stakes races.

He was outclassed first up in the Concorde but will appreciate the drop in grade. “He is the type of horse that we are confident can measure on Saturday given the right set-up, and to much better races,” Freedman said. Sports news, results, and expert commentary.
