Free opioid overdose prevention training coming to Northeast State

Northeast State Community College’s Office of Workforce Solutions will offer the training Nov. 18 on the school's Blountville campus.

BLOUNTVILLE — Northeast State Community College’s Office of Workforce Solutions is to offer a free course in mid-November designed to help individuals respond and prevent opioid overdoses. Opioid, stimulant and overdose prevention training educates community members on opioid overdoses and overdose prevention through the distribution of Naloxone, commonly called an opioid Overdose reversal kit. Regional overdose prevention specialists work with their assigned communities to help to reduce harm, address stigma and increase public awareness, including the brain science of addiction, compassion fatigue and how to administer Naloxone.

The course will be 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov.

In 2021, Nunley was trained as a recovery coach, certified peer recovery supervisor or CPRS and became a certified men’s health educator or CMHE. Nunley serves as a Region 1 regional overdose prevention specialist or ROPS), providing education, training, outreach and referrals.
