HOUSTON — Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones has partnered with Harris County Public Health to provide free measles vaccines to children and adults as Texas faces a rising outbreak of the highly contagious disease. It was announced Sunday that another child in Texas died of the measles . Officials also announced this weekend that a person who was not vaccinated and contagious with measles traveled through Houston Hobby Airport on March 30.
The vaccines will be administered at several Precinct 4 community centers on select dates in April through mobile health units. Officials strongly encourage people to schedule appointments by calling 832-927-7350. "The mobile health units offer a crucial opportunity for residents to protect themselves and their families against this highly contagious disease during the rising outbreak in Texas," according to the announcement from Commissioner Briones' office.
Vaccines will be available on April 9 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.
m. at Bayland Community Center (6400 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX 77074), and on April 11 from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at Freed Community Center (6818 Shadyvilla Lane, Houston, TX 77055).
