The Greenbrier Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is starting its Drone Pilot training program for active cadets in January 2025. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for cadets to pursue their FAA Part 107 drone license at no cost, equipping them with valuable skills for future careers. Beginning January 20, 2025, cadets aged 12 to 18 will have the chance to participate in the program, which includes hands-on training in drone operation.
The curriculum is designed to prepare participants for their FAA Part 107 license, enabling them to explore professional pathways in aerial photography, mapping, surveying, and other drone-related industries. The training is part of CAP’s broader mission to provide education in aviation, STEM, and emergency services, while also fostering leadership and character development. Classes are held weekly on Monday nights from 6 p.
m. to 8:30 p.m.
at Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg. As an official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol is a national volunteer organization focused on youth development and community service. The Greenbrier Composite Squadron actively supports these goals through its diverse programs and initiatives.
In addition to the Drone Pilot program, the squadron is seeking guest speakers and instructors in areas like aerospace, STEM, emergency services, and character development. This provides an excellent opportunity for experts to share their knowledge and inspire the next generation of leaders.
