FAIRFIELD – The Green Valley Fire Safe Council, in partnership with CalFire and the Cordelia Fire Protection District, is offering a free wildfire risk assessment and defensible space training on Sunday. “The Green Valley Fire Safe Council is committed to helping residents better prepare for the wildfire season and this training is a vital step in empowering our community,” said Rochelle Sherlock, president of the Green Valley Fire Safe Council. “By providing this training, we are not only educating residents on wildfire prevention, but we are also fostering a culture of preparedness in the region.
” The training is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.
m. at 2155 Cordelia Road in Fairfield. "This hands-on training will equip attendees with critical knowledge to protect homes and communities.
Participants will learn how and why structures burn and walk away with actionable strategies to create defensible space and harden their homes," organizers said in a statement. Key training highlights include: • Protect Homes from Wildfire: Gain a deeper understanding of how defensible space and home hardening can help protect properties from wildfires. • Defensible Space Zones: Learn how to structure landscapes to slow wildfires through the removal of surface and ladder fuels, and spacing trees and vegetation.
• Home Hardening Techniques: Understand structural wildfire vulnerabilities, and steps to mitigate those risks. • Expert Guidance: This training is provided by the Green Valley Fire Safe Council and CAL FIRE. Attendees will learn how to assess properties and take action to reduce wildfire vulnerabilities.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Green Valley Fire Safe Council and the Cordelia Fire Protection District to offer this important training,” said Battalion Chief Jason Freyer, with the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit of the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. “By working together, we can help residents implement the critical steps necessary to protect their homes and communities from the devastating effects of wildfires.” Attendees are encouraged to bring property maps or photos for tailored advice.
