The Franklin High School football program will have a new football coach for the 2025 season. The job posting is now listed under job openings on the El Paso Independent School District website. The new coach will replace Daren Walker, who was reassigned from coaching duties on Feb.
26. The El Paso Independent School District confirmed Walker had been reassigned from coaching duties on that date. The new head coach will also have campus athletic coordinator duties.
The El Paso Times contacted Walker on Tuesday, but he has not returned a phone call. The El Paso Times has also contacted EPISD for comment.Walker is one of the most successful coaches in El Paso, and his teams have been consistent winners in his career.
Walker has been the head coach at Chapin and Franklin High Schools in El Paso for 23 years, and his overall record is 160-90. He coached at Chapin from 2002-2006 and has been at Franklin since 2007.At Franklin, his 2011 and 2012 teams won 10 games, and his 2014 and 2018 teams won nine games.
Franklin currently competes in District 1-6A. The Cougars went 6-5 in 2024 and qualified for the playoffs, losing in the bidistrict round.Several current or former high school head coaches, including Mark Torres, Ruben Torres, Leigh McWhorter, Patrick Brown and Frank Martinez, have worked as assistants for Walker.
