Frank Iero is among our winners of the Rock Sound 25 Icon Award and in our new in-depth interview , he opens up on the continuing legacy of My Chemical Romance . Discussing the new audiences who came to the band’s reunion tour in 2022, he said “That band got bigger than we were when we stopped just by being away. That doesn’t happen all the time.

It’s bizarre that it still strikes such a chord with people. There was this organic growth that was happening without our knowledge, without us really doing anything. I’d like to think that is testament to the art that we put out and that it withstands the test of time and still resonates.

We put a lot of work into it and I’m proud of 99.9% of everything we did. But it’s shocking to me, man.

” He continued “I remember as a kid learning about some of the bands that became my favourites, The Misfits or Black Flag , and realising they weren’t around anymore. I would get handed down these mixtapes, usually by a friend’s older sibling or it was stuff that I found in my Dad’s record collection. When you find it like that, it becomes yours, whether you were there for it or not.

You live your experience through it, and that’s what’s happening with My Chem. I think that’s a beautiful, beautiful thing.” Our new interview looks back on Frank’s entire career, from Pencey Prep to MCR, his solo work and forming L.
