T he Fort Payne track team traveled to Vestavia Hills Saturday for the “King of the Mountain” track meet. The meet was full some of the stiffest competition the Wildcats have seen. Fort Payne had strong performances from key athletes.
Conner Kinsley is a man on fire right now, and Ruthie Jones had a season-best in both the 400 dashes and 800. The breakout performance Saturday came from Alonna Baumgartner. She had two big personal best performances on pole vault and triple jump, and she is just a freshman who is still growing and learning each day.
“Several of our kids that we hope to count on down the stretch of the season scored or at least ran their season best. That’s encouraging to see that this early in the season,” said Head Coach Cole Peters. Next week the Fort Payne team travels to Cullman to compete in the Cullman Classic, where the Fort Payne girls team are the defending Champions.
