November 16, 1939 - April 4, 2025 MADISON, Ala. -- Arnold Foy Smith passed away at the age of 85 in Madison, AL, on April 4, 2025. Foy was born on November 16, 1939, in Asheboro, NC.

Foy was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Janis Rowell Smith; his mother, Mollie Foy Sanders; his stepfather, J. Brooks Sanders; and his older brother, Billy Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Everitt, and her husband John of Riverside, OH; his daughter, Melanie Myatt, and her husband James of Madison, AL; his brother, Phillip Smith, of Vance, SC; his brother, Perry Smith, of Orangeburg, SC; his grandson, Spencer Everitt, of Abilene, TX; his grandson, Zane Everitt, of Cincinnati, OH; his grandson, Daniel Myatt, of Auburn, AL; and his granddaughter, Allison Myatt.

Foy and his family moved to Orangeburg, SC when he was young. He graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1958 and worked at Owens Corning Fiberglass plant in Aiken, SC. He served 4 years in the Air Force as a medic and married Janis in 1964.

They lived a short time in Biloxi, MS, and Columbia, SC. They lived in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, a beautiful town on the Gulf of Mexico, most of their 47 year marriage.

They attended Cinco Baptist Church in Fort Walton. He retired from long distance truck driving in 2008 after 31 years. His CB handle was 'Tightwad,' a nod to his frugal nature and sense of humor.

He was quite a character and frugal to a fault. Janis unexpectantly passed away in 2011, and his heart never mended. He moved to Madison, AL, in 2016 to live closer to family.

In his retirement, Foy enjoyed riding his bicycle and repairing lawn mowers in his garage. Foy's warmth, determination, and unique sense of humor left an indelible mark on those who knew him. The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful people who cared for Foy at Madison at the Range since 2020 in assisted living and memory care.

A memorial service in Fort Walton Beach will be held at a later date. Sign up to get the most recent local obituaries delivered to your inbox..
