FOX Sports college football commentator Brock Huard has turned his back on the role in order to help his son through high school football - but he is looking to make the step up to the NFL

Brock Huard is set to leave his role as a FOX Sports college football analyst to become a high school coach - but he’s open to NFL broadcasting opportunities. Earlier this month, Huard announced he’d be departing his role as the college football announcer alongside Jason Benetti in FOX Sport’s No. 2 booth.

He is set to swap the mic for pads and chalkboards, as Huard will serve as the tight ends coach at Valor Christian High School this fall. Huard revealed he’ll be working under former college offensive coordinator Mike Sanford. He said: “I’m going to be the tight ends coach at Valor Christian High School.

“I’d like to still do [broadcasting] down the road, but for these years, these formative years, my son’s gonna be a sophomore. These are years I’ll never, ever, ever get back. And I’m gonna jump into it.

” Huard’s contract with FOX was nearing its end, so a split makes sense - particularly with his son set to feature on the Vale Christian team. The 48-year-old will continue co-hosting his morning radio show ‘Brock and Salk’ on Seattle Sports 710 AM. Huard’s also not permanently turning his back on his broadcasting career.

He added: “I think there might be some opportunities, whether that’s this season or the years to come, on the NFL side of things. But in the college football realm, this will close the door for the next three years.” The 48-year-old Huard originally joined FOX in 2019 following a spell at ESPN .

He has also served as a sideline reporter for UFL games on the network. Huard, who was the quarterback for the University of Washington during his playing days, also called NFL games for FOX in 2020 alongside Chris Myers and Greg Jennings from Weeks 1–13 and Kevin Kugler from Weeks 14–17. He has clearly left the door open for a return to the pros should an opportunity present itself.

“I just knew this was coming to a point where I can’t miss these games,” Huard told the Seattle Times. “Then when he said, ‘I really missed you this year, and I’d really love if there’s any way for you to help,’ that made it really easy.” Huard’s decision to vacate the booth leaves a hole for FOX Sports.

One potential replacement is former USC star Mark Sanchez, who has been calling games with the network since 2021..
