Chennai: Relatives and friends explore new ways to smuggle in ganja and drugs for some Puzhal Central Prison inmates. In two latest cases, the contrabands were hidden in dates and clothes. In one incident, prison officials examined the dates handed over to them by Balaji and his friends Dinesh Kumar and Karthikeyan for his brother Parthiban who is in judicial custody in connection with a drug case.

The officials found the seeds of 11 dates had been replaced with drug tablets . In another incident, Praveen, 19, of Triplicane visited the prison to hand over a few clothes to his friend Anantha Narayanan, 40, of Alandur who was arrested by the Guindy police in connection with an assault case in April this year. The prison officials examined the trousers and found that Praveen had stitched an additional cloth to hide a ganja sachet inside.
