Four arrested for killing elderly woman

Chennai: Three days after a 70-year-old woman, living alone, was found murdered for jewellery at her home near Kalpakkam in Chengalpet, police arrested a four-member gang, including a minor. Police said Kanniyammal, living alone on Periyapalayathamman Street in Bommarajapuram village, ran an eatery in Bommarajapuram. On Monday, six men who were drunk approached her for money to buy booze.

As the woman turned them away, the gang attacked her and slit her throat using a knife. They took away two sovereign gold earrings and a chain. Inquiries revealed the involvement of one Sachin from Nallathur village, as he was seen roaming near her house hours before she was found murdered.



Police who nabbed him found the involvement of his friends Ajith and Rajesh from Bommarajapuram and a minor boy. A hunt is on for two more people Pradeep and Viji in connection with the murder ..
