ST. LOUIS — The Fortune Teller Bar, a mainstay of the Cherokee Street scene for the past 12 years, will close after service on Dec. 31.
The Fortune Teller Bar announced the impending closure Monday on social media. A call to the bar on Monday afternoon was not immediately returned. “(The Fortune Teller Bar has) always been a space filled with love and acceptance, and I’m proud to have continued that for our friends on Cherokee and for the broader community,” current owner Ryan Schepers said in a statement.
Fourth City Barbecue, the restaurant that operates inside the Fortune Teller Bar, will hold its final service there on Dec. 21. “We’re so grateful to the many wonderful people we have met and served in that time (at the Fortune Teller Bar), and we hope you all will stick with us while we work towards our next step,” Fourth City said on social media .
“We have some big plans in the works.” The Fortune Teller Bar opened in 2012 under its original ownership at 2635 Cherokee Street. The bar is the second venue along the restaurant and nightlife corridor bridging Benton Park West and Gravois Park to announce its imminent closure recently.
