Now that Sean O’Malley is no longer the UFC bantamweight champion, Cory Sandhagen believes now is the perfect time for them to finally fight, and he has the backing of former bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw. After losing his UFC bantamweight title last weekend at UFC 306, Sean O’Malley has many fighters calling his name for a contender fight, with fans hoping that Cory Sandhagen will be the one he fights next. Despite that, if it is ‘The Sandman’, he will have to wait at least nine months until he gets that fight, as O’Malley recently revealed that he is going to take an extended amount of time off following his loss.

TJ Dillashaw backs Cory Sandhagen in potential fight against Sean O’Malley While the 29-year-old was the champion, fans salivated at the potential of a fight between him and Sandhagen, but it unfortunately never came around. Former king of the division, TJ Dillashaw has shared the mats and also fought Sandhagen inside the Octagon, picking up a split decision win against him, and he believes the 32-year-old would ‘piece up’ O’Malley if that fight comes to fruition. “I think he pieces Sean up.

So, like when they were getting ready to give a title fight to someone, I thought Sandhagen would’ve been a dope fight for him, but I think Sandhagen’s just better at what O’Malley is good at, to be honest,” Dillashaw stated on the Jaxxon Podcast. “He’s just more dangerous, right, but O’Malley’s got great feints, I mean (that’s the fight to make), I would love to see that fight,” the former champion added. However, just under a week removed from his disappointing title loss, the former champion rewatched his fight and live-tweeted it on X. After re-watching the lackluster five-rounder, O’Malley went on to claim that he won rounds 1, 3, and 5, stating that he is still the champion. “I won the first, third, and fifth round and I challenge all you f*cking little dorks that think I got my ass kicked to go and re-watch that fight.

.. I’m the champ, I won, where’s my belt?” O’Malley said in a Space on X.

The 29-year-old then went on to make a video in his own private warehouse, claiming that he would defend his belt against Umar Nurmagomedov in June or July after getting surgery on October 3. “I’m back! Just re-watched the fight, I won round 1, 3, and 5, f*ck you Merab, you’re still a b*tch, I’m the champ, and still, undefeated,” O’Malley hilariously stated. STILL HOPEFUL: ‘I’m Conor’s next fight’.
