Former Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder has been on the move throughout the 2025 season. Starting the season with the Brooklyn Nets, Schroder was traded to the Golden State Warriors, then was relocated to the Detroit Pistons. There’s no telling where Schroder will go when the former $70 million guard’s contract expires when the season is over.

Among the teams he could join this offseason, Schroder could rejoin one of his former teams. Fadeaway World floated the Boston Celtics as a free agent destination for Schroder, citing that the Celtics could use his bench scoring. That’s precisely why the Celtics signed him in 2021 .

Though Schroder held up his end as a bench scorer, he wasn’t a good fit with the team primarily because he was ball-dominant, so he took scoring opportunities away from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Boston traded him shortly after trading for Derrick White in 2022; the rest was history for the Celtics. Schroder’s struggles in Boston are not an indictment on him as a player.

If he fits with the team he’s playing for, he can be phenomenal. It’s why he came so close to getting Sixth Man of the Year honors twice with the Thunder; he was runner-up in 2020, and was top 10 for the award the year before. Before the Nets traded him, he was one of their best players.

However, when Schroder doesn’t fit in with his team, it can be a problem for both parties. He did not fit in with Golden State, which led to them trading him, much like Boston did when he didn't fit in with them. Because Schroder is a boom-or-bust player, he’ll undoubtedly have a market this offseason.

It would be a major surprise if Boston were one of his suitors.
