Leading up to the No. 5 Texas Longhorns' Week 5 game against the Florida Gators, news broke that former five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II was leaving the team. It was initially reported that he was dismissed, and while head coach Steve Sarkisian didn't go too much into his departure, he did call it " mutual " in terms of how both parties felt about him leaving.

Cook may not have had the biggest role in Austin behind, but as soon as the news broke that he was out at Texas, major programs across the country reached out to him. Programs like Oregon, Georgia and Ole Miss were among the teams to have reportedly kicked the tires on the DeSoto product. While Cook and the programs may already be having some sort of discussion, the portal doesn't officially open until December.

Despite the fact that the season isn't over, other players around the country have already made decisions to enter the portal. 247Sports has already begun ranking the players in the portal, and Cook comes in as a four-star and the No. 2 player.
