The Philadelphia 76ers made their intentions for the future perfectly clear after signing former MVP Joel Embiid to a massive, $193 million three-year contract extension. Embiid, when healthy, is one of the best players in the world. However, he is yet to get his 76ers team past the second round of the NBA playoffs.

Last season, Embiid and the Sixers lost in the first round to the New York Knicks, although he was clearly hobbled. However, that didn't stop him from suiting up for Team USA in the Olympics, where he beat Victor Wembanyama in the gold medal game. © Kyle Terada-Imagn Images Embiid was outplayed by Wembanyama in the gold medal game, but the Americans proved to be too much for the French.

However, Embiid's track record against Wemby and the San Antonio Spurs is utterly dominant. He scored 70 points against the Spurs in January of last season. Former Spurs guard Avery Johnson weighed in on Embiid's new contract on CBS Sports.

"Contragulatiosn to Joel Embiid. I think the only question mark you ever have about Joel Embiid is his availability," outlined Johnson. "How many games can he play in an 82-game season to justify this type of extension? They're pushing all their chips in, they're all in.

..this is all going to be predicated on how many games Joel Embiid can play on the floor.
