Former PWHL Toronto goaltender Erica Howe shares breast cancer diagnosis

The 32-year-old announced the news in an Instagram post over the weekend.

Former PWHL Toronto goaltender Erica Howe announced on Saturday that she has breast cancer. Howe shared the news in an where she said her world “flipped upside down” on Aug. 26 when her doctor called her with the diagnosis.

“Breast cancer at 32 has been one hell of a ride so far,” Howe’s post said. “Not the battle I wanted, but it’s the battle I got and I am learning more about myself than I ever imagined. Cancer is about to meet its match.



” Her comment section was flooded with messages of support from friends and fans, including one comment from the PWHL’s Toronto Scepters, wishing Howe strength. Howe was a goaltender for the franchise, which played last season as PWHL Toronto, until she announced her at the end of the season. In her three appearances, Howe made 58 saves, with a 1.

89 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. She took a leave of absence from her firefighter job in Mississauga to sign a one-year contract with the team at the beginning of last season but kept up her commitment to training goaltenders for the Mississauga Jr.

Hurricanes, who play in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League.
