Post House Café & Bar, on Blackburn Road, is set to open on Saturday, April 12, from 12pm. This is Barbara Poole’s first foray into the hospitality industry. She was postmistress at the site, when it was known as Rising Bridge Post Office, for 27 years.

She said: “We have been thinking about this for a while, but plans really started forming in May last year. “I think the community needs to do something different – there isn’t anything like this in the area.
” The post office closed last May due to Barbara’s husband’s ill health. Barbara said it was “time for a change”. Rising Bridge Post Office (Image: Google) “We closed the post office due to my husband's ill health,” she said.
“We closed that part of it because we ran the post office for 27 years. We thought it was time for a change.” The business will only be serving drinks to begin with, but there are plans to introduce a food menu later down the line.
Breakfast, sandwiches, jacket potatoes will be some of the items on the menu. Barbara said: “Everyone was so excited when we made the announcement and can’t wait to visit. We have had a lot of interest.
“We’ve spent quite a lot of money and think it looks quite good. “Once a month, we are hoping to do a ‘themed night’ with our menu.” Draught lagers, cider, Guinness and more will be available at the bar.
Cocktails will be introduced in the future. Barbara Poole (Image: Barbara Poole) Barbara said: “We will be developing the menu more further down the line as it’s a new venture for us too. "It is my first time working in the hospitality industry, so I am nervous but excited.
“We are excited to welcome people to the new venture. I hope some people will come out to support us.” Last August, plans were submitted to convert the former post office into a new business.
According to plans, the post office counter has become the bar’s serving counter, with four tables with seating for 14 people in the former retail and waiting areas. A unisex toilet has also been created, with the back-room kitchen and basement storage area to remain. At the time, it was said that the venue would create four full-time and two part-time jobs, and be open 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.
