Bengaluru: A 21-year-old BE student and her male friend were attacked with a lethal weapon by her previous jilted landlord-techie, while they were sitting at a BMTC bus shelter in Padmanabhanagar, South Bengaluru recently. The police arrested the accused Srikanth, 37, a software engineer at a private firm. Srikanth, a resident of Kamalanagar in Basaveshwaranagar, is a father of two children.

The injured are Priya (name changed), a resident of Kurubarahalli, and her college mate Varun (name changed), a resident of Hosakerehalli in Banashankari. According to the complaint filed by Priya, she and her friend were attacked by Srikanth between 6.30pm and 7pm on April 8.

She told police that her family previously lived in a house owned by Srikanth for rent on the 4th Main, Kamalanagar. Srikanth used to then stalk Priya and force her to have a relationship with him. When his harassment became unbearable, she took up the matter with his wife and her parents.

As he didn't mend his ways, the family vacated the house a year ago. Srikanth learnt about her present address three months ago and started following her again. Priya informed his wife, who filed a complaint at Basaveshwaranagar police station.

After police warned Srikanth, he stopped following her for some time. But around 1.30pm on April 7, Srikanth went to Priya's college.

After spotting him in the college, she called and informed her father. Srikanth didn't approach her that day. But the next day, around 6.

30pm, when she and Varun were sitting in the bus shelter, Srikanth went and sat next to them. Priya borrowed Varun's phone to call her father. Seeing this, Srikanth suddenly hit her on the forehead, snatched the phone, and told her, "Let's talk for a while.

" He gave the phone to Varun, warning him not to call anyone. He started shouting at her, "You said you don't love me, but are you in love with this person?" and punched Varun in the face. When Priya tried to stop him, Srikanth suddenly took out a cutter blade from his shirt pocket and tried to slit Varun's neck.

Varun warded off his attack with his hands and suffered a cut and injury on his face. Srikanth told Priya he would leave only after killing Varun. He tried to stab Priya's neck too; she too raised her hands and sustained an injury on her right hand and a cut on her face.

Priya cried loudly, seeking help. People around rushed to their aid and caught Srikanth. The injured duo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they underwent treatment.

Banashankari police rushed to the spot and took Srikanth into custody. A senior police officer said a case is registered against him and he is remanded in judicial custody..
