NEIL GIBSON will always be a big fan of Welsh football but he’s loving the atmosphere of bigger crowds as he continues to work wonders at National League battlers Wealdstone. Gibson cut his teeth at Prestatyn Town, Flint Town United and Connah’s Quay Nomads before getting his chance in England with London club Wealdstone. A 1,400 crowd saw The Stones move five points clear of the relegation zone after beating promotion-chasing Forest Green Rovers at the weekend with ex-Wrexham striker Alex Reid scoring twice.

It was a seventh win in 14 games for Gibson in his first foray into managing in England. “I’ll always be a big advocate of the Welsh game but the atmospheres at these bigger grounds in the National League is something I’m really enjoying,” said Gibson, who moved to Wealdstone in January on a two-and-a-half year deal along with right hand man Lee Jones. “We went to Yeovil and there were 3,500 there; 6,000-plus at York City and we’ve got to go to Barnet too.

“It’s a very strong league but we’re fighting to try and stay in it.”.
