Back at the start of this year, “Air Force One” writer Andrew Marlowe said that various iterations based on the 1997 action thriller had been considered but they never came up with an idea everyone could agree on. He did add that “people keep talking about” the film and the possibility of a remake, reboot or sequel. Harrison Ford starred in the original film as the U.
S. President who attempts to rescue everyone onboard when a group of terrorists hijack his plane Air Force One. Something may have happened in the near year since those remarks though as scooper is reporting today that Sony Pictures is developing a follow-up, one which may include the return of Harrison Ford’s James Marshall character.
Richtman adds it’s not clear if this sequel or a reboot. Gary Oldman, Glenn Close, William H. Macy, Jurgen Prochnow, Dean Stockwell, Paul Guilfoyle, Xander Berkeley and Andrew Divoff all co-starred in the original.
The 1997 movie was a profitable hit – snagging $315.2 million worldwide off an $85 million budget along with scoring solid reviews and two Oscar nominations..
