Ford is issuing a recall for nearly 150,000 vehicles across the US due to two separate issues that have been identified, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced this week. In total, 148,000 vehicles are set to be recalled. If your vehicle is among those affected, you should expect to receive a notification letter by May 26 if you are the registered owner.
Approximately 123,000 of these vehicles are being recalled due to a problem with the brake system. A fluid leak has been discovered in these cars, which could potentially reduce braking performance and increase stopping distance, as reported by Reuters . The models believed to be affected by this issue include the 2017-18 Ford F-150, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.
Ford dealerships should be able to replace the faulty components at no cost to the owner. An additional 24,655 2025 Ford Explorers cars are being recalled because of a problem with the powertrain control module. This issue can cause the module to reset while it's in operation, damaging the car's park system or causing the engine to stall.
Dealerships should also be able to rectify this software issue free of charge. These recalls come just weeks after more than 35,000 vehicles were recalled due to faulty LED lights in the exterior mirror that could potentially cause a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall primarily impacted 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator vehicles, with dealers expected to disconnect the LED light wires free of charge to prevent short-circuiting.
Ford currently leads the pack in terms of car manufacturers issuing recalls, just within the first four months of 2025. News Bytes reports that the automotive giant has issued as many as 40 recalls this year alone, equating to one recall every three days and affecting over 1.23 million vehicles in the US.
Interestingly, nearly half of these recalls affected fewer than 1,000 vehicles. One recall even impacted only two 2022 Mavericks. Despite these figures, the overall number of recalled vehicles is actually down by one million compared to the same period last year.
