
The adapters have been distributed under Ford’s Fast Charging Adapter program, which first launched in 2024 after to use their previously exclusive North American Charging Standard (NACS). With many of its older EVs still using a CCS1 charging port, Ford launched the complimentary adapter program in order to give its customers access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. According to the firm, those who take advantage of the upgrade will now be within 18 miles of a fast charger while travelling on “most US highways.
” Following the roll-out, Ford has announced that it is bringing the free adapter program to an end but will continue to sell the adapters as an optional extra for approx €180 ($200) . “We are proud to share that we have fulfilled our commitment to deliver complimentary adapters,” said Ford’s Director of Charging & Energy Services, Ken Williams. “Every complimentary adapter reserved by our US customers has been shipped.
” He added: “Tesla Superchargers now account for nearly 20% of all charging visits away from home for Ford electric vehicle owners.” There is a slight difference in the tariffs that Ford customers pay at Tesla Superchargers, with charging costing them around 30 per cent more per kilowatt-hour than Tesla drivers. This can be lowered to the same level as Tesla owners if a Ford driver signs up for a Tesla Supercharging Membership.
